The 18-hole Royal Porthcawl Golf Club (founded in 1891) located on Swansea Bay south of Swansea town is ranked No. 1 golf course in Wales. The links course has a magnificent setting sloping down to the seashore with memorable sea views from every hole, south to Somerset and Exmoor, and to the Gower Peninsula. The Royal Porthcawl Golf Club is venue to many important tournaments like The Senior Open Championship, The Amateur Championship, The Walker Cup, The Curtis Cup, The European Team Championship and The Ladies European Tour.
An American visitor got it right recently. He came off the 18th green of this aristocrat among links courses with the enthusiasm still clear in his eyes and excitement in his voice. “This place is wonderful” he exclaimed. “Why haven't I heard about it before?” The answer is that traditionally golf clubs in Wales have been less heralded than those in Ireland, Scotland, and England, though the staging of the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales did something to remedy that.
Practice facilities: expansive grass range, two putting greens, chipping area and five hole par three Academy Course.
