The 27-hole Greenock Golf Club (founded in 1890) is set in the heart of Renfrewshire not far from Glasgow. It is located high above the town of Greenock. In 1924 former open champion James Braid advised the reconstruction. The 18-hole course (known locally as "the big course") is a mix of parkland and moorland with trees defining many of the fairways. The course (5850 yrds.) is not long by modern standards, but tight fairways, and small undulating greens will test players at every level. The 9 hole course (opened in 1927) skirts through Gorse and trees within the layout of the 18 hole course. It is a pleasant challenge for avid golfers. The views of both courses over the Clyde Estuary to the Argyll hills beyond are simply spectacular.
Greenock Golf Club hosted several professional and amateur county championships over the years. Enjoy its courses and the fact that it is the gateway to the Highlands with Ben Lomond & The Trossachs within easy reach.
