The 18-holes Quinta do Lago North Course (1974) was originally a 9-hole course known as the Ria Formosa Course designed by the American architect William Mitchell (one to five and fifteen to eighteen). Holes six to fourteen followed in 1989, designed by Joseph Lee/Rocky Roquemore. The course settles in a natural woodland with umbrella pines, gorse, heather and wild flowers.
Golfers will be challenged by a combination of undulating greens, well-positioned bunkers and water hazards, while driving skills will be tested. The course needs strong fairway play combined with accuracy to succeed in maintaining a low score especially at the four magnificent par 5 holes. When playing the par-3 holes wind might have som effects. The 14th hole is outstanding. The 13th and 18th challenge with lake hazards. For low handicappers it is important to know how to "draw the ball".
