The 27-hole Sawgrass Country Club is the premier private country club of Northeast Coastal Florida. Sawgrass Country Club formerly hosted The Players Championship tournament from 1977 to 1981 prior to the tournament moving to its present location. The golf course, now with 27 holes, was designed by noted Arnold Palmer Course Design architect, Ed Seay. Through the years, Sawgrass has been consistently recognized as one of the finest courses in the country and has been included in Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Courses in the U.S., Golf Digest’s Best Courses in Florida, and Golf Week Magazine’s Top 100 Courses in America.
The Sawgrass Country Club courses are being renovated. The three-year project began in May 2013 with the closure of the West nine. The second phase continues with the East nine holes in the spring and summer of 2014, followed by the South nine course in spring and summer of 2015.
